It might surprise you to find out just how important getting the right grind is. Whereas a french press requires a courser grind, and is very forgiving, espresso machines require a grind that is very specific. Get the right grinder and maintain it. Have you ever looked into the bottom of your coffee pot and noticed a brown discolouration? Coffee oils build up, and over time they stick to just about anything. When this occurs within your espresso machine it can become a big problem! If you have a manual espresso machine make sure that you are back flushing and cleaning out the solenoid valve as much as possible. Super automatics are more difficult to clean.
